Tap Feature Not Working?
Sorry to hear you are running into difficulties! Below are some frequently asked questions about NFC and why the device might not be scanning your Elite Card!
First of all,
Great job pivoting and utilizing the Qr code in those situations! The cards being compromised and ceasing to store data permanently is extremely unlikely however not completely impossible.
That is why we offer free replacements for all members in our program!
More often than not, if there is an issue with readability it is with the individuals device and not the Card.
How to test:
The way to test whether the card is the fault or device in these instances would be to use the tap feature on your own phone which we know worked in the past. If your device cannot scan your Elite Card, then we will print and ship you a free replacement. Which is included at no charge in our program!
How It actually works:
Inside the Elite Card is what is known as a fractal antenna; a micro chip and geometric antenna shape that have a 13.56mhz frequency and can be picked up by smart phones with an nfc receiver. IPhones 7 and up have this feature and Android phones 2018 and newer. The Elite Card stores a URL that has the contact information stored in a virtual contact file in the cloud. This allows for the info to be edited and changed at any time in the future by the user or account holder.
FAQ:
Possible Reasons Device Will Not Scan:
- Device is older than 2018 and does not have nfc capability (in these cases use QR code or share your profile via share button in top right corner; txt, email, air drop.)
- Device had been dropped one to many times or phone is cracked (This can damage the receiver with in the device and everything else could still work perfectly)
- Device had water damage (While the Cards are water proof, the scanner in phones can be compromised by moisture)
- Phone Case is Extremely thick (Otter Box) - However we have found that if you hold your elite card over the camera where the phone case is not covering the top of the phone it will go through, or holding the card over the screen side of device.
- Phones on less than 20% battery can impact reading distance (I have not experienced this)
- Device is not unlocked and brought to home screen (This is a best practice however most phones can scan from the lock screen)
- IPhone is on a Facetime Call - Tap feature will not work when IPhone is in a Face time video call.
- Poor internet connection - in these cases the Tap should still work, but the page would not load because it requires internet.
It can be noted that some androids must manually turn on the NFC in order to read.
This can be done by swiping down in the control center at the top of the phone and clicking NFC on.
