How an NFC business card works

NFC — Near-Field Communication — is the same tap technology behind contactless payments. Embedded in a card, it turns a single tap into a full contact exchange.

A passive chip, no battery

Every card has a tiny NFC (Near-Field Communication) chip — the same tech as tap-to-pay. It has no battery and never needs charging; the phone powers it on contact.

Tap to any modern phone

Hold the card to the back of an iPhone (7 or newer) or virtually any recent Android. The built-in NFC reader opens your profile automatically — no app to install.

QR code as a fallback

Older phones or anyone who prefers to scan can use the printed QR code on the same card. Same profile, either method — you never get stuck.

Materials

Choose your finish

Every material carries the same NFC chip and QR fallback — pick the one that matches your brand.

Metal

A premium, weighty card with a laser-engraved logo and embedded NFC chip. Makes a statement the moment it hits the table.

Wood

Engraved walnut or maple with a warm, natural finish and the same tap-to-share NFC chip inside.

Matte plastic

Clean matte black or white with reflective gold or silver logo work — durable, professional, and cost-effective.

NFC business card FAQ

What is an NFC business card?

An NFC business card is a physical card with a small Near-Field Communication chip embedded inside. When you tap it to a smartphone, the phone instantly opens your digital profile — contact details, links, and social profiles — with no app required. Elite Card Pro NFC cards also include a printed QR code as a fallback and make your profile searchable by keyword inside the recipient's contacts.

How does an NFC business card work?

The embedded NFC chip is passive — it has no battery. When you hold the card near the back of a phone, the phone's NFC reader powers the chip and reads the link stored on it, opening your profile automatically. It works on every iPhone since the iPhone 7 and virtually all modern Android phones.

Do NFC business cards work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. NFC reading is built into iPhone 7 and newer (no settings to change) and nearly all Android phones from the last several years. If a phone is older, the printed QR code on the same card is an instant fallback.

Does the person I share with need an app?

No. Neither you nor the recipient needs an app. Your profile opens as a normal web page they can save to their phone — optionally to their home screen like an app for quick access.

What are NFC business cards made of?

Elite Card Pro offers premium metal, engraved wood (walnut or maple), and matte plastic with reflective gold or silver logos. Every material houses the same NFC chip and prints your QR code fallback.

How much does an NFC business card cost?

Elite Card Pro NFC cards start at $150/year for the Standard plan (card, hosted profile, keyword search, real-time updates, and free replacements) and $250/year for Pro, which adds a CRM, lead capture, and an analytics dashboard.

What makes Elite Card Pro NFC cards different?

Keyword search. Most NFC cards simply share your details. Elite Card Pro makes your profile searchable inside a contact's phone, so months later someone can search what you do — "realtor," "insurance" — and find you even if they forgot your name. Setup is also done for you by a US-based team.
